If tranquil and tidy are prioritized residential qualities, then Norwalk would certainly fit the living bill for you. Serving as the county seat of Huron County, Norwalk is a less-hurried, livable option when you need reasonable commuting access to Toledo or Cleveland. Within close proximity of both I-90 and I-80, it’s easy to hitch your ride to either interstate and spend the day (or night) in either city. Here’s an in-depth look at what Norwalk has to offer.

According to 2010 U.S. Census data, Norwalk is home to just over 17,000 residents, and most of the households are families. So, if you’re looking for a ‘hood that is family-friendly, this is a pretty good place to start. While this brand of wholesomeness can be appealing for some, it may not be construed as being diverse. A good portion of the Midwest doesn’t exactly represent what most think of as a “melting pot” and Norwalk is no exception. If encountering different people of various backgrounds with wide-ranging ancestries are your thing, then Norwalk might not make your residential cut. However, that’s not to say that its residents won’t lay out an earnest welcome mat for more diverse populations. It just isn’t there to embrace. When the need to sample a full range of ethnic cuisines and engage different cultures strike, head east to Cleveland.

Luckily, compared to the rest of the country, affording Norwalk is pretty reasonable. Paying the bills in Norwalk really depends on what you do. In general, Ohio’s economy has been hit hard. The state is famous for its factory work. Unfortunately, these were also the type of jobs that suffered serious blows during the recession. Work is around, but the job market can be competitive. There is an upside, however, as cost of living expenses typically reflect the region. Therefore, if you are able to land work at a department store, you can actually live on that salary. So — compared to other regions — a little bit of money can go a long way in a place like Norwalk.
A Welcome Throwback
In an age of metroplex cinemas and mega theaters, it is sort of nice to catch a drive-in movie every once in awhile. Or every five times in a while, if you're lucky enough. Norwalk can give you that experience — at least seasonally. Take advantage of this during spring and summer because northern Ohio winters aren’t afraid to bring the arctic winds and snow. And the cold likes to hang around and wear out its welcome! However, the good news is that spring and summer are absolutely gorgeous and refreshingly tolerable.
