A popular summer getaway, North Amityville -- along with its namesake Amityville Village -- churn and froth with an influx of holidaymakers seeking beaches, boardwalks and heritage parades once June rolls around. Of course, that means those beaches will be dusted with snowflakes for a sizable portion of the year, but hey, having four full seasons is a major bonus.
So Much Room For Activities
With seasonal crowds come enticing recreational opportunities. North Amityville has all sorts of options for outdoorsy types, with all the parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, beaches and boat launches one can shake a stick, paddle or umbrella at; there's absolutely something for everyone. Even if you're more the antisocial hermit type, there are quiet museums and food delivery services. You might even find apartments for rent in North Amityville with utilities included. Score.

Yes, there is a public bus operated by Suffolk County Transit, and if you travel a bit you can jump on the Long Island Railroad Service, but the automobile is king, so come prepared. Number two: pack for all seasons, all possibilities -- humidity is a thing here and snowbanks happen. Number three: Cost of living here is higher than the rest of the country (though well below the city, so count your blessings). If you're living somewhere inexpensive now, you should put away a little extra as a safety net while you and your wallet adjust.
Won't You Be My Neighbor?
Amityville isn't a sprawling metropolis, so there aren't really neighborhoods or sections of the city per se. Potential residents looking for places to rent can use the following generalizations to help choose a mailing address:
West N. Amity: This area is a bit of a mixed bag and in a developmental state. The local government is trying to buy up the land and build apts for rent. On the other hand, many folks are finding cheap rental houses and homes for sale they can either flip or rent out. Easy access to Route 110 is another point in West End's corner.
South N. Amity: The area near Sunrise Highway is fairly notorious as the place to be of a few decades ago, but a lot of people know that today's older neighborhood is often tomorrow's hipster hot spot. It's also a reasonable option for lower rents while still having easy access to just about everything.
City Center: Luxury condos for rent, snappy rental apartments and plenty of enticing amenities make City Center the choicest area of town, and it shows in the steeper rental prices. If you have the means, it's the most highly recommended spot.
The government is steadily working hard to make North Amityville a vacation destination for the residents as much as the leaf peepers, so this is your chance to get in on something good before everyone else discovers the diamond in the (not so) rough.
