Oakdale, Louisiana is a small town in south central rural Louisiana. It's a short enough drive from Oakdale to go to Baton Rouge and New Orleans whenever you want, but it's far enough away that Oakdale is not considered a commuter town, and isolated enough that it has a culture and community of its own. Living in Oakdale
Living in Oakdale feels like living in the country. You're in a pretty small Louisiana town, which is definitely the deep south, and you're far enough away from any big city that you don't feel like you live in a suburb. You feel like you live in your own little enclave. Oakdale is certainly its own enclave with plenty of amenities, and some of them include things like nearby West Bay Wildlife Management Area and Marsh Bayou Wildlife Management Area, where you can see some of the coolest bayou animals in just a few minutes drive.
If you like eating (especially Cajun food) you're gonna love Oakdale. Some of the best restaurants in town include The Hardwood Mill Caf̩ on 10th, and Casa Pe Pe's.
If these pickings aren't enough for you, there's always New Orleans, which is arguably one of the dining capitals of the USA. It's only a three hour drive straight on Interstate 10, and once you're there, you can sample some of the most delicious food, including beignets from Caf̩ du Monde, Mufalettas from Central Grocery, and gator nuggets from the French Market. If you want something a bit closer, Baton Rouge is right in between the two cities. In Baton Rouge, you can explore the state capitol and learn about the area's history, or you could check out the Baton Rouge Zoo, the USS Kidd, or ride a roller coaster at Blue Bayou and Dixie Landin'. The drive is short, just 100 miles away, so have your own car, and you could be in the heart of the action in no time.
